It is categorized under humanities and it is a value-oriented subject.
In Teso College Aloet, the subject is handled at both U.C.E. and U.A.C.E. with the following values:
- It introduces learners to their cultural heritage and present way of life.
- It develops the reasoning capacity of learners, logical thinking and a sense of judgment.
- Learners are able to use the past to solve present problems.
- The knowledge of political history can help learners in public administration.
- Provides employment to professionals like teachers, lawyers, administrators, social workers, etc.
- Creates a sense of identity and unity among learners and thus, promoting peace and harmony.
- History offers students with an opportunity to associate with renowned personalities as Dr. Milton Obote in Uganda, Kenyatta in Kenya, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere in Tanzania, Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Nkwame Nkuruma in Ghana among other Pan Africanists.
